Church History Trip

Mike and I had a wonderful opportunity to spend a week at the Church History sites in Missouri, Nauvoo and Nebraska. Our testimonies were strengthened as we learned about what took place at these sacred places.  Our love and appreciation for the early saints of the church grew as we walked where they had walked.  What a blessing to be apart of this wonderful chruch.  So grateful!

The Kansas City Missouri Temple

The Community of Chirst Temple in Independence Missouri

Replica of  Liberty Jail where Joseph Smith was imprisoned for 5 months.

Farr West Missouri. It use to be a large prosperous settlement until the saints were driven out.  All that is left is the spot where the four cornerstones were laid for a temple.

A whole bunch of different views of Adam Ondi Ahman.  One of my favorite places to visit.

Parly street that is now known as the Trail of Hope.  This is the path that was followed by the saints as they left Nauvoo.  It ends at the Mississippi River where they crossed over to head west.

This is the view looking back towards Nauvoo on the Trail of Hope.  The temple is in the background.

They have markers posted along the trail of different peoples experiences or thoughts as they left Nauvoo.  Here's a few of them.

Where they would have crossed. The mighty Mississippi!

This is a statue of Brigham Young and Joseph Smith representing "looking to the Rocky Mountains"

This is the Emma and Joseph's 1st home in Nauvoo.  The well is an original.

The Mansion House where they later lived.

Joseph, Emma, and Hyrum Smith's graves.

We toured the rest of Nauvoo on bikes. So fun!!

This statue is across the street infront of the temple representing Hyrum and Joseph going to Carthage.

The beautiful Women's Garden.

I love this statue of the first vision.  It's in the visitor center at Nauvoo.

The Red Brick Store where the Relief Society was organized and the first endowments were performed.

We were able to do a session at the temple.  It is one of the most beautiful temples on the inside.  I love it.  It was a wonderful experience!

The flowers are gorgeous.  This pic was for Kaitlyn who loves flowers.

Carthage Jail.

This is the original door that Hyrum was shot through.  The bullet hole is still there.

The other side of the Mississippi in Montrose Iowa, where the saints crossed.  The Nauvoo temple is in the background.

Mount Pisgah in Iowa was a settlement of the saints as the were headed west.  We are holding witching wires and trying to find graves.  A farmer who is not a memeber of the church but who owns a ton of land around Mt Pisgah shows us how he finds graves and buildings.  Interesting!

The Kanesville tabernacle where Winter Quarters is.  The first presidency was organized here with Brigham Young as prophet.

I loved this statue and what it represented.

Pioneer Courage Park in Omaha Nebraska.  So Awesome!

The cemetary in Winter Quarters Nebraska where 600+ pioneers are buried.

Winter Quarters temple.

A cute sister missionary that touched my heart at the visitor center in Winter Quarters.

Our trip home was delayed a day because of bad weather,  so we had one last hoorah in downtown Omaha. Good times!
